a classroom for one month. £20 will enable the school coordinator
and teachers to obtain necessary equipment such as pencils, paper,
books, and other necessary supply. It will also be used to maintain
the availability of safe water and sanitation facilities. With approximately
60 students in each classroom, a lot of materials are needed! Adequate

Teachers Annual Salary: £40 a week
Providing the salary for just one Nigerien school teacher can help
ensure the continued availability of education in these remote areas.
£40 will provide the annual salary for a fully qualified teacher
from Niger. This will give children affected by slavery in the area
the opportunity to learn the skills needed to build better lives
for themselves and their families.

Books: £10
Obtaining an education is the best chance children have of breaking
the barriers to a better life. However, the new schools are not
fully equipped with the materials these children need to learn.
Our goal is to build a library in each school and your contribution
could help make this a reality by providing textbooks. Textbooks
are a fundamental part of education; they will enable an entire
class to begin learning lessons that will offer them a better life,
free from slavery and discrimination. Education is particularly
important in these communities as they previously did not have access
to education and parents were not able to make decisions affecting
their children. Empowering the younger generation through education
can change communities by giving them the chance to prosper.

School Desk and Chair: £24
Equip classrooms in Northern Niger by providing a desk and chair
so that children are not overcrowded and having to sit on the floor.
They will be able to learn much more effectively and their concentration
will be improved. Proper facilities will encourage children to attend
school and improve the overall experience of their education, leading
to an increase in their achievements.

School Dinner for 60 Children: £15
For the majority of children attending our schools, the balanced
meals provided in the canteen are their only source of nourishment.
Life in the desert region is harsh; children are particularly vulnerable
in times of drought or when food is in short supply. Your gift can
provide dinner for the children in one of the new schools in Niger.
These dinners provide nutrition to ensure the children's health,
and their ability to concentrate throughout the day. Furthermore,
the meals will encourage parents to send their children to school.
|
| |
|
|
|
Canteen staff: £18 per week
Your gift will provide the weekly salary of one of the canteen staff.
These workers are responsible for ensuring that the students receive
a balanced school dinner. This is particularly important because
for many students at the schools, this will be their only meal of
the day. Your gift will enable students to learn more affectively
and remain focused throughout the day.

Pharmacy: £16 per month to maintain
a pharmacy
Your gift of £16 will enable a pharmacy to run for one month,
providing essential immunizations, first aid, and medications. The
schools are becoming the center of the communities in Northern Niger
by providing more then just teaching. The existence of these pharmacies
is crucial to maintain the health of the students as healthcare
is not available anywhere else.

Petrol and oil for motorbike: £15
per visit to five schools
Your gift of £15 will provide enough petrol for the school
coordinator to make a visit to all five of the new schools. As most
transportation in the area is by donkey, it is essential to have
one motorbike to increase the ability of the school coordinator
to provide services to all five of the schools in a timely manner.

|
School coordinator salary: £60
per week
The schools coordinator is an essential part of the running of the
new schools in Northern Niger. His responsibilities include ensuring
the quality of teaching in accordance with the national curriculum,
promoting human rights teaching, supervising the governors and other
staff, and ensuring the well being of the children, for example
checking their nutrition levels. He also makes sure that materials
are reaching the schools. The school coordinators job is crucial
to ensuring the running of the schools.

Training for Governors and Parents:
£15 per session
Your gift will provide crucial training to governors and parents
about health care issues and the importance of education, in particular
that of girls. There are three governors that are employed at each
school to look after the well-being of the children. It is essential
that they receive training on important issues affecting their community
in order to effectively care for the children, who do not have any
other access to healthcare or social services.

|
Training at the Ministry of Education:
£25 per government official per class
Your gift will enable crucial training sessions to be given to government
officials at the Ministry of Education in Niger. These sessions
will focus on awareness and education about the specific problems
encountered by communities affected by slavery in Northern Niger.
The Ministry of Education has committed to supporting the new schools
after they have been operational for a five year period. Their awareness
of the issues faced by these communities will improve their ability
to meet their needs through support of the new schools which will

Goats: £40 a pair
Goats can be a real lifeline in Niger. Your contribution will provide
two goats for a family that has been affected by slavery. Besides
providing food for a family, the goats will also provide an income
from the sale of milk that can be traded. Furthermore, goats' kids
can be passed on to help other families. The droppings of a goat
also provide excellent fertilizer for growing vegetables. A gift
like this could continue giving and make an even bigger difference
in the long run.

|
|
Chickens: £10
Women are being assisted in Northern Niger to raise broods of chicks.
These chicks will grow up to produce protein-rich eggs which can
be eaten as well as sold in local markets. In addition to providing
food for a family, this gift will also help provide an income which
can buy essential medicines and school supplies. The chickens can
also be bred which will continue this cycle and help elevate women
and their families out of poverty. They will become increasingly
self-sufficient, and begin rebuilding their lives so that they can
work towards a more secure future for themselves and their families.

|
Donkeys: £55
In the remote desert region water is in short supply and people
have to walk many kilometers to collect it. Your gift could help
provide donkeys for carrying water and help take produce to the
market. Donkeys can also be used to plough fields, run water pumps,
and are an excellent source of fertilizer. The benefit a family
will receive from your gift will be realized for years to come.
|
| |
|
|
|
Camel: £95
A camel is also a great way to provide families with transportation.
The milk that camels produce is also extremely rich and can be a
great and regular source of nutrition. They can even produce milk
during times of extreme drought during which time their milk will
be even more crucial. This is because camels can go up to 15 days
without water. Camels are also a good source of fertilizer that
can be used to improve conditions for growing vegetables in the
desert soil.

|
Farming tools: £25
In many parts of Niger, families struggle to grow food in poor quality
soil without the tools they so desperately need. Your gift could
help in providing local people with the tools they need to grow
a range of crops that can be eaten and sold. Furthermore, the yields
on small farms will be improved, making the land more productive
for the community.

Sewing Machines: £65
This gift could help an entire group of women in Northern Niger
to organize and begin generating income to support their families.
Providing sewing machines to a women's community group will help
them to become more independent and secure. These women will learn
how to make clothing which will provide for their community. They
will also be able to sell the clothing in order to generate income.

|
|
|
Micro-credit for women: £25
Our micro-credit program for the women's community group in Northern
Niger will help women, their families, and the schools by providing
a stable source of income. The women will be able to use their small
loans to buy things like grain and seeds and turn them into profits
which can then be reinvested into the programme, into the schools
where their children attend, and also provide an income for their
families. A loan of £25 can be used to buy grain, seed, and
other materials the women can use to start a small business.
This program will empower women by giving them access to both the
training and resources that they need to become self sufficient
and gain confidence in their abilities to provide for their families.
Their ability to provide a stable source of income will benefit
the entire community as well as helping them to achieve greater
equity in the community.

Wells: Improving access to clean
water: £9000,
The people of Northern Niger struggle to survive with no clean
water supply. They are forced to drink from natural pools or local
rivers and many suffer from diseases like cholera and dysentery.
Your gift could help fund wells which will provide safer water so
that lives are no longer lost needlessly to diseases caused by contaminated
water. Access to clean water will mean that communities can establish
kitchen gardens to supplement their diets and sell any surplus at
the local market.
A contribution of £9,000 will enable us to construct a well
in a community. Funds are needed to pay for skilled labour to build
the well, equipment, and the structure of the well itself. The availability
of clean water is crucial for the health of these communities.
